Just as each life is unique and not cast in a mold, so are the Urns of Sedona -- each one is an individual, handmade work of art.
I created these urns after realizing first hand how much they were needed.
When my Mom died in 2004, I found there was nothing to hold her remains that in any way expressed her unique life.
The urns offered by the funeral home all came from a mold. They were utilitarian, but sterile; useful but meaningless. Some reminded me of glorified cigar boxes.
Even through my sadness and confusion, I knew I couldn't do that to Mom.
I rushed to my studio, to express in clay my love and respect for this remarkable woman. When I was done, I truly felt I'd created the perfect jar for my Mom's funeral and cremains.
At the funeral, my family and I were pleased that so many people admired my Mom's urn and commented on how it seemed so like her.
And then, surprisingly, several asked if they could come by my shop to pick out an urn they'd eventually use for themselves. In the meantime, they said, they'd have a beautiful clay sculpture for their home.
I realized then that items normally associated with grief can also be a source of joy. I realized an urn could be more - it could be a "Keepsake Jar."
The Urns of Sedona are high-fired stoneware glazed from the rich soil of the Red Rock Country of Northern Arizona.
I am producing Keepsake Jars in four major categories:
Additionally, I make stoneware "Shrine Furnishings" - incense burners, candle holders, picture frames, etc. - that help to create an aura of affection around your Keepsake Jar.
You can review examples of each Urn category on this website. And, I will be happy to send you photos of my newest creations.
I look forward to hearing from you . . .
